
Splishers
Focuses on preparing students to swim on their own, it teaches basic floating and water movement as well as finishes water acclimation. This level is designed for students who are comfortable with the water but cannot release the wall.
If the student cannot accomplish all of the following tasks, he or she is considered a Splisher
Water Acclimation
Face in water
Blow bubbles
Bobs (push off bottom of pool and back to surface)
Jump from wall to instructor
Jump from wall and re-surface alone
Basic Float
Release wall
Back float with instructor help
Back float without help in shallow water
Back float without help in chest-deep or deeper water
Prone help with instructor help
Prone float without help in shallow water
Prone float without help in chest-deep or deeper water
Basic Water Movement
Release and push off from wall to instructor
Kicking (straight leg) on wall
Kicking (straight leg) with instructor
Kicking in prone float to instructor
Kicking in back float to instructor
Front crawl arm stroke, no kick with instructor
Front crawl arm stroke with kick to instructor
All skills should be demonstrated with confidence on the part of the student. Any movement should be completed over a length of two or more student body lengths.
